Send money abroad with Atlantic Money

When you send money abroad, whether it be to relatives, business or any other reason, can be pricey.

This is especially the case with international bank-to-bank transfers which can leave customers facing high fees, unclear exchange rates, and slow transfer times. Fortunately there is a way to get a clearer deal for your transfer.

Atlantic Money has services for personal and business transfers with 10 currencies available to exchange.

It offers a £3 flat fee per transfer (of up to £1 million) – 10x cheaper on average than alternatives – with a live updated exchange rate to ensure your money transfer costs are as clear as possible.

Exchange rates

Foreign exchange rates are an important part of sending money abroad and can make the transfer much more expensive if you’re not fully aware of how they work.

A currency exchange rate at its most basic is how much of one currency you can get for another. The basic exhcange rate tends to come from firms such as the Visa exchange rate.

However some banks use their own rates, which can be worse than the Visa rate and therefore not as good value. It is important to be aware what exchange rate your bank may charge as this can be a very expensive way to send money.

First transfer free

Mouthy Money has got a deal for readers which enables them to make their first overseas transfer for free. – with instant delivery costing just £1 extra.

The company was launched by American expats Patrick Kavanagh and Neeraj Baid who were alarmed by the cost and inefficiency of sending money abroad through the mainstream banking system.

Halloween fright

It’s one of my favourite holidays – Halloween. The one day a year I can not only feel like a zombie, I get dress up like one too!

If you like feeling spooked, by going to a Halloween themed attraction, you don’t need to spend full price on them with this deal.

Here’s everything you need to know about adults go free tickets to some top attractions.

How to get it

Selected Kellogg’s products in the supermarket has promotional packaging on, that gets you an adult ticket for free.

Now, it’s not as simple as just rocking up with a box of cereal (I wish it was). These promotional boxes get you a free ticket when you buy another one at full price.

You can either purchase an adult or a childs ticket, and get the second adult ticket for free, to Merlin attractions around the country.

Because it’s now Halloween, theme parks such as Thorpe Park and Alton Towers are offering ‘fright nights’ that are included with the price of a ticket.

The Kelloggs offer has no black out dates either, so you can use the deal to get a free ticket in.

It’s not just theme parks too, the London Dungeon (as well as York, Edinburgh and Blackpool) are running the same offer with no black out dates.

In fact you have until June 2024 to claim your free tickets with Kelloggs, so it can be used at any time until then, if Halloween and jump scares aren’t your thing.

To get the deal, head to your local supermarket and buy a promotional product (you can usually find cereal bars for £1-2 that are usually the cheapest).

Then head over to the Merlin website to enter your voucher and book your tickets to your attraction in advance.

You’ll only pay for 1 ticket for every voucher that you have. So you can get more than one!

For full details, and to see what attractions are included, head over to the Kellogg’s website.

Whether Starbucks is a little treat for you, or basically your office – there’s a deal that not many people know about that you can claim in store.

It’s very easy to claim too, with no coupons or discounts required, and available every day of the week.

Here’s everything you need to know to get a cheap coffee:

What is in the deal exactly?

If you wanted to make your local Starbucks your office for the whole day, you can do it by only paying for one drink and getting unlimited refills.

Starbucks gives free refills when you order and purchase a filter coffee when inside the coffee shop.

So when you’re finished the first cup, you can head back up to the counter and ask for another one, free of charge.

For as long as you stay inside the coffee shop, you can continue to get free refills, but the second you leave, you’ll have to pay for another one to start the cycle.

At most Starbucks Coffee shops, a filter coffee will only cost £1.55. But there is a way to get it for a little bit cheaper too.

If you bring in a reusable cup, Starbucks gives you a discount of 25p, which drops the price of your filter coffee down to £1.30.

It’s not going to be as fancy as a Frappuccino, but it still gets you your caffeine fix for a little bit cheaper!

Why should I care?

Having a day out at a coffee shop isn’t as cheap as it once was, but if you’re now working from home, you can head to a Starbucks and basically make it your office for the whole day for just over £1.

It’s worth telling your friends about this offer too, as if you ever meet up with someone, this could be a great place to go for a cheap coffee and a catch up.

Whats the catch?

There isn’t much of a catch with this deal. It’s available everyday and everyone can get it.

Sometimes if the queue for the till is long, you might have to wait a little bit of time to get your free refill – so be wary about leaving your laptop and belongings out on a table while you get one.

If you don’t have a reusable cup to get an extra 25p off, you can buy a Starbucks cup for just £1 in a coffee shop. Once you’ve used it more than 4 times, then it pays for itself.

What other options do I have?

Filter coffee is the cheapest form of coffee you can get in most coffee shops, and although you can’t get free refills on them, you can generally find it for between £1-2 at other high street giants like Pret and Caffe Nero.

Costa does not serve filter coffee anymore however.

Where can I find out more?

To get the deal, just head into your local Starbucks and order a filter coffee and ask for refills! They don’t advertise it very well – so its worth confirming it with your server first.

Free breakfast for kids this half term https://www.mouthymoney.co.uk/budgeting/free-breakfast-for-kids-this-half-term/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=free-breakfast-for-kids-this-half-term https://www.mouthymoney.co.uk/budgeting/free-breakfast-for-kids-this-half-term/#respond Wed, 08 Feb 2023 09:54:38 +0000 https://www.mouthymoney.co.uk/?p=8687 The thought of a school half term and the costs associated with it, will be daunting for some. The thought of a school half term and the costs associated with it, will be daunting for some.

Keeping the kids entertained is never easy, and it’s even harder if you’re on a budget. Luckily there are a few deals floating about.

Here’s one that gets your kids some free brekkie throughout the whole of the half term period.

What is in the deal exactly?

If you have a school age child (or multiple school age children), taking them to a supermarket cafe will get you the deal.

Asda Cafes (which you can find nationwide) are offering this freebie. You can head to a cafe between 8am and 12pm each day and ask for the offer.

You don’t need any coupon or voucher to show to get it, just speak to the staff member, and you’ll get the free breakfast.

The only thing that’s included in the breakfast is a bowl of Quaker Oats porridge, so it might not be for a fussy eater – but still a nice little freebie for those that like it.

Parents… you don’t need to buy anything or be eating alongside your kids while taking advantage of this offer – there’s no minimum spend, so you can just get the freebie.

This offer will be running over the whole week of half term (from Monday 13th to Sunday 19th), so there’s plenty of time to claim it.

There’s nothing stopping you going there more than once too, if you wanted to feed your kids on the cheap over half term.

Why should I care?

Food is expensive at the best of times, so if you were already going to do a food shop during the school holidays, you can tie it in with a free breakfast.

It’s not the biggest freebie, but it’s a great initiative – and if your son or daughter likes porridge, then it’s a win win.

What’s the catch?

You do have to have a school age child (16 or under) to get the deal.

The Asda website says that there are 50,000 bowls of porridge available around the country during the promotion, but there’s no indication of how many each store has, or what happens if they run out.

It’s probably something to do at the start of the half term week just in case, but I see it unlikely that they’d turn people away if asking for it.

What other options do I have?

During half term week, you can find a lot of deals on meals for kids. If you can’t get there for breakfast, Asda Cafe is also doing a kids meal for £1 nationwide.

Not only this, other restaurants and cafes such as Yo Sushi, Morrisons, Bella Italia, Sizzling Pubs, Angus Steakhouse, Hungry Horse and many more are offering deals. Usually kids eat for totally free with an adult meal purchase, or for £1.

Where can I find out more?

Head over to the Asda website for the full details of the deal, but head into an Asda Cafe during half term to pick it up.

Amazon Prime subscribers got a lot more benefits than you might think – and it can even stretch to money off your takeaway.

That’s because you can get access to a deal with Deliveroo, that can get you some discounts.

Here’s everything you need to know, and how to claim it.

What is in the deal exactly?

All Amazon Prime members can get access to Deliveroo Plus. This usually costs you £3.49 a month for normal subscribers.

You’ll get access for 12 months, so over the course of the year, it’s a £40 saving.

Deliveroo Plus gets you free delivery on orders over £25 at selected restaurants. Usually this can cost £4.49 for each delivery… which can add up to a lot of money if you get takeaway regularly.

It also gives you access to exclusive discounts and deals only available to Deliveroo Plus subscribers.

To get the deal, you’ll need to head over to the Deliveroo website, where you can find a page to link Deliveroo and Amazon Prime accounts.

Once you’ve signed in, click on the ‘claim with Amazon Prime’ button, to get access to the deal.

You’ll instantly get Deliveroo Plus for 12 months, but luckily once the time ends, you won’t be automatically signed up for payments continuing the membership.

There are two different membership options (either silver or gold), but as part of the deal, you’ll be signed up to the silver membership.

Even if you order Deliveroo infrequently, you could still be saving £10s or £100s of pounds if you order for the whole family.

Why should I care?

Lots of people have an Amazon Prime subscription, so it’s great to have this deal as an option if you wanted to order takeaway.

The options for food delivery are usually much better on Deliveroo, so you can get a Bella Italia, KFC or Toby Carvery at home without paying extortionate costs for the privilege.

What’s the catch?

You do have to be an Amazon Prime member to get this deal, and also have a Deliveroo account.

Not all restaurants are included in the free delivery offer, so your favourites might not be on there. It’s worth having a look to see what the offer does include however.

The minimum spend to get the free delivery is £25, so it is still quite a lot to spend. If you are choosing to eat at places like Bella Italia however, you should have no issue hitting the spend limit.

What other options do I have?

Sometimes you’ll see offers and voucher codes for Just Eat and Uber Eats, so it’s worth having a look around for codes before you buy.

If you can get 10-25% off your food bill, that may actually add up to a higher amount saved than just getting free delivery.

Where can I find out more?

Head over to the Deliveroo website to link your Amazon Prime account. It should take less than a few minutes, and could mean a nice saving.

If you like a Peri Peri good deal, this might be one for you. So many people can get 20% off their food when eating at Nando’s, that you may not know about.

Each offer has a few restrictions, as always, but it can still make for a cheap(er) trip to get some Nando’s.

Here’s how to get a 20% off discount, and who’s eligible for the deal.

What is in the deal exactly?

There are two separate offers here – one if you’re a student, and another if you work or the NHS (in any capacity), emergency services or armed forces.

First off, Nando’s have just launched a student discount for Nando’s restaurants around the country.

To get the deal, you’ll need to add your student email address to your Nando’s rewards account online.

Once this is done, food will be 20% off during the times of 11.30am-5pm on Monday-Wednesday every week at Nando’s nationwide.

The deal only applies when dining in, and you must scan the QR code on tables or order through the app to get the deal.

It can be used on orders up to the value of £50, which equates to a maximum of £10 off.

And finally, there’s an offer if you work for the NHS, armed forces or emergency services (which includes police, fire or ambulance service).

If you head into a Nando’s and show your work ID, to prove that you work there, then you’ll get 20% off your food bill.

There’s no Blue Light Card needed – you just need some official ID, which you show to the server when ordering to get the deal

This offer is available every day of the week, at any time. This deal only works for orders up to £20 however, so the maximum discount is £4.

If you have a student and an NHS worker in the family, and the timing is right for the student deal… you’ll save more money that way.

Why should I care?

Although Nando’s is an expensive luxury, sometimes you need to treat yourself.

There are over 1 million people working for the NHS, so even if you don’t, you probably know someone who does.

If you head out for food with anyone that fits these jobs – be sure to let them know about the discount they can get.

What’s the catch?

Not everyone is going to be a student or have the jobs needed to get the offer.

Also, some of the conditions places on the offer like timing and minimum spends can be restrictive, so do make sure you can get the offer before you set off out.

What other options do I have?

There are restaurant offers galore around at this time of year, so there’s plenty to choose from if you can’t get this deal.

Until the end of January you can get any pasta dish at Bella Italia for £5, and also get a free hot drink at Café Rouge every weekday.

Where can I find out more?

Head over to the Nando’s website for instructions about the student deal.

You can also find information about the NHS, armed forces or emergency services discount on the website here.

Getting around is becoming more and more expensive, whether it’s driving and paying for fuel, or taking public transport.

Luckily, there’s a deal happening right now that will make getting around a lot cheaper – and it’s not being widely advertised.

Here’s how you can ride on buses around the country for just £2 one way:

What is in the deal exactly?

From January until the end of March, bus companies around England have capped the price of single fare tickets at just £2.

This deal is around due to the Government subsidising ticket prices, and have encouraged many major companies to join in.

Big names such as First, Stagecoach and Ariva are taking part, but also smaller local bus companies too.

Not all routes and companies are involved with the deal, but you can check whether your local company is involved by checking the government website.

You can also find details of the deal on local bus websites, where there are often explainers and banners advertising the deal.

WIth the deal, it might actually be more cost effective to buy two single tickets rather than getting a return. My local trip from my village to the next biggest train station costs £7 one way, or £8 return.

With the prices capped at £2, the return journey would cost £4 – so it’s half the price of the regular return ticket.

Why should I care?

Train fares are increasing again by 5.9% this March, so getting from A to B isn’t getting any cheaper.

This is one of the first deals of its kind that I’ve seen on bus fares, so if you use the bus normally, this could save you quite a bit of money.

It might also be competitive with rail fares if you’re travelling a short distance, so it’s a good thing to check.

What’s the catch?

Unfortunately not all bus companies are taking part and some routes are excluded.

Some of the big cities around the country such as London and Manchester do not have buses taking part in this promotion at all, due to price caps already being in place.

If you wanted a return trip, you will have to get two separate single tickets if you wanted the cheapest price.

What other options do I have?

Buses and other forms of public transport rarely offer discounts of any sort. Now is the right time to book winter sun holidays however, as flight prices are quite cheap.

You can pick up £20 return trips to Dublin, Milan and Copenhagen from different UK airports leaving in the month of January and February.

Have a look around on an airline price comparison site such as Google Flights to find the best options.

Where can I find out more?

There is a devoted page on the Government’s website that tells you every bus company and route number that is included.

Alternatively, you can head over to your local bus company’s website and see if they are offering cheap fares.
